| Well, that has to be disappointing for all involved at LSU. A week after showing new life with a 49-42 win over Florida, the Tigers followed up Ed Orgeron’s resignation announcement with a 31-17 loss at Ole Miss. An opening-drive TD gave LSU some early momentum and a 7-0 lead, but the Tigers couldn’t get much going for the rest of the game. Orgeron was getting pats on the back after the Florida win and the mostly positive reaction to his decision to resign at the end of the season. After Saturday’s showing in Oxford, he fits the bill as a lame duck coach. Ole Miss sits at 6-1 and 3-1 in the SEC, staying in the race in the West Division. LSU drops to 4-4 and 2-3 with the defeat. A year from now when these two teams meet, LSU is guaranteed to have a new head coach. Ole Miss fans are hoping that Lane Kiffin remains the Rebels’ coach, and doesn’t flirt with becoming Ed Orgeron’s successor. It was apparent on Saturday that LSU and Ole Miss are in two programs headed in very different positions going into the home stretch.
