The Front Page: A candidacy in question, and can a Halloween parade lead the way to a safer Mardi Gras?

By Chad Calder | Staff writer

CANDIDACY IN QUESTION? New Orleans City Council member Jared Brossett is facing another DWI allegation after police found him asleep in his vehicle at a convenience store early Monday morning, and police say he failed a field sobriety test. It was Brossett's third DWI arrest and the second since June 2020, when he crashed a city-owned vehicle into another while driving in the wrong lane on Esplanade Avenue.

Brossett is running for an at-large City Council seat in next month's election, and the arrest has cast doubt on his political future.

THE BOOPRINT: The upcoming Krewe of Boo! parade will serve as a test run to help determine whether New Orleans can parade for Carnival next year without creating another super-spreader event. Doug MacCash has a rundown of what's at stake here.

SAGE ADVICE: Our Jeff Duncan has a story about some words of wisdom Saints Coach Sean Payton gave to Ryan Nielson last year about a coveted job opening with the LSU Tigers, who decided to cut ties with Coach Ed Orgeron over the weekend, less than two seasons removed from a national championship.

IN OTHER NEWS: New Orleans seats its first jury in 19 months, investigators are working to determine the cause of a massive weekend fire that occurred upriver from a fireworks display, and the top financial executive is out at the LSU Health Sciences Center, which is in the midst of a scandal over allegations of nepotism and improper spending.

Thanks for joining us this morning on The Front Page and at Nola.com.
