| | El-tech-tion Day, Mosby's fund Hey hey, Baltimore. I hope you caught the Ravens crushing the Saints last night, and made sure to vote today. If you're a resident of Baltimore city, like me, you'll have seen (or will see, if your getting this newsletter reminds you to sprint to the polls before they close) an interesting proposal among the various city-level ballot questions. No, not the much-discussed, Sinclair boss-funded one to impose term limits on various city positions. I mean Question G, approval of which would create the Dante Barksdale Career Technology Apprenticeship Fund for workforce development. Proposed as a charter amendment by City Council President Nick Mosby, the fund is named after the Safe Streets leader who was killed in a shooting last year. The prospective non-lapsing fund would support workforce cultivation programs, including pre-apprenticeship initiatives, in the city's public schools and community colleges. The Baltimore Banner reported that Mosby sees the fund as a way to stem violence like what took Barksdale's life by offering more job pathways to at-risk youth. And, of course, it has "technology" in its name. How did you vote on the question? Do you think such a fund could be beneficial for developing Baltimore's tech workforce, even as the city boasts several STEM-focused schools? We'd love to include your responses in a prospective article, so share your election reflections at [email protected] or in response to this newsletter. — Technical.ly editor Sameer Rao ([email protected]) | | | Top Stories | By The prioritization of work-life balance have changed what companies might want to offer as employee benefits.
