The Prairie Home season closed out most seasons with a short tour leading into the season finale around the Fourth of July. The historic Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, was a favorite with its wonderful outdoor venue and lawn. This classic show originally aired on June 24, 2000, and featured Robert Lockwood Jr., Lynn Peterson, and guitarist Cliff Wittstruck sitting in with the Shoes.

Highlights include a beautiful duet version of “Beautiful Ohio,” plus several well-known songs from the ’60s sung by Garrison and Lynn Peterson. Delta blues great Robert Lockwood Jr. offers up “Love in Vain.” Plus, a number of Duke Ellington tunes led by Richard Dworsky and the Guy’s All-Star Shoe Band with Cliff Wittstruck. Robert Lockwood Jr.

Robert Lockwood Jr. was a Delta blues musician who was taught to play the guitar by legendary blues musician Robert Johnson, and Lockwood used his early blues training to create his own jazz-inspired sound that garnered much acclaim. Over his 70-plus-year recording career, he played with many of the blues legends, including B.B. King, Muddy Waters, and Johnny Shines, among others. Robert Lockwood passed away in 2006. Among his many accolades are two W.C. Handy Awards plus a posthumous Grammy Award win for Best Traditional Blues Album.

Lynn Peterson

Singer-songwriter-science geek Lynn Peterson is a native Minnesotan whose career took her to New York City, where she spent eight years as a performer, composer, and studio vocalist, before returning to the Twin Cities. And the science geek part? She studied chemistry as an undergrad and now continues work focused on chemistry and sustainability.

Happy 50th To Robin & Linda

Robin and Linda William met and fell in love the same year the radio show began, in 1974. Wishing them a happy 50th Anniversary. They put together a short video set to music that you can watch here.

Summer Love from A Prairie Home Companion

This week’s featured show includes the song "Slow Days of Summer,” which Garrison wrote and has performed on the show and on tours over the years. It is one of the tracks on the Summer Love CD, with Garrison duetting with Sara Watkins. The CD is a great addition to your collection since it captures highlights from the summer 2010 cross-country tour filled with many exceptional and memorable evenings and performances under the stars.
