A $147M COVID grant under scrutiny

During the COVID pandemic, Louisiana got $147 million from the federal government to help stave off mortgage foreclosures. The state paid a Mississippi accounting firm to oversee the grant. 

Now top state officials are asking the auditor to investigate how the grant was distributed. Sources tell us there is suspicion that the firm's employees improperly received money themselves.

Here's what we know.

Demand for the Louisiana treats, which disappeared for a decade after a fire destroyed the company's plant, was so high that initial shipments got gobbled up almost immediately.
