Happy Fourth of July, New Orleans food fans! This week, Ian McNulty brings us eight great dishes to try, plus one martini. The fried chicken destination Willie Mae's Scotch House announces a new location. A familiar name will take over the former Tony Mandina's site in Gretna, and a vast new cocktail lounge is taking shape inside New Orleans' Caesars Casino. Fans of Paw Paw's Donuts don't have to wait for the vendor to pop up now that it has a Metairie location. Finally, Teresa B. Day brings us summer-fresh recipes for roasted vegetables and a fruity bread pudding. 1. To try in July? Addis NOLA, Tacos del Cartel and six more restaurants have dishes on Ian McNulty's must-try list this month. And he recommends a bracing martini to enjoy in this hot month, too. 2. Crunch time! A fire destroyed the landmark fried chicken spot Willie Mae's Scotch House in 2023. While rebuilding continues at the original St. Ann Street restaurant, the family is now preparing to open a second location of Willie Mae’s in downtown New Orleans, just in time for football season. 3. Wait! There's more. For the red sauce aficionados, there's a new option coming to the former Tony Mandina's in Gretna. Inside Caesars Casino, we get a sneak peek at the sweeping new lounge called Octavia. And the pop-up Paw Paw's Donuts will have counter space in Metairie to sell its doughnuts and breakfast sandwiches. 4. Market fresh. We’re officially in the summer season of fresh produce, and there’s a bounty at your local farmers market. Teresa B. Day has recipes for roasted vegetables and blueberry-lemon bread pudding to prepare a quick, light and delicious supper. In New Orleans, the food news never stops.
