TUESDAY, DECEMBER 24, 2024 TODAY, CHRISTMAS EVE: WINTER ALERT Morning Wintry Mix Afternoon Clearing Highs: 40-45 Winds: Light Our next weather maker will move into the region early this morning bringing a chance for a wintry mix. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory until 1 p.m. for possible road impacts. Precipitation may start as light snow in our northwest zones before transitioning to freezing rain. It will look like rain falling from the sky, but with such low temperatures the past few days, surface temperatures are below freezing, so a glaze of ice is possible on untreated roads, sidewalks, and more. The highest impact in the D.C. Metro will be between 7-10 a.m. with the precipitation ending from south to north before noon. The afternoon will feature gradual clearing with more seasonable highs in the 40s.
OVERNIGHT, CHRISTMAS EVE: Scattered Clouds Temperatures: 31-36 Wind: North 3-8 mph Plan for a dry and cold Christmas Eve. Santa won't have to deal with any precipitation when he arrives to the DMV. Overnight lows will fall below freezing in a few neighborhoods north and west of Washington. WEDNESDAY, CHRISTMAS DAY: Partly Sunny Highs: 40-45 Winds: North 5-10 mph A cold start Christmas Day will give way to highs in the 40s. Plan for a mix of sun and clouds. This evening marks the first night of Hanukkah, which is rather later this year. The last time the first night fell on Christmas Day was in 2005. Prior to that, 1910, 1921 and 1959. THURSDAY: Partly Sunny Highs: around 45 Winds: North 3-8 mph Post holiday shoppers will enjoy partly sunny skies along with highs in the 40s.
