Areas of dense fog will greet you this morning with low clouds hanging tough for much of the day. Temperatures will be well above average; topping out in the upper 50s to low 60s. A passing shower is possible this morning or afternoon with rain likely this evening.

Plan for an impactful weather day with periods of heavy rain, as a strong cold front approaches. There's even a chance for a few rumbles of thunder. The Storm Prediction Center has the DMV in the 'Marginal' risk category for storms that could contain damaging winds. Rainfall totals will be over 1", so plan for ponding on area roadways. Rainfall will be heavy through the afternoon with rain tapering off from west to east shortly after sunset. Winds will increase by 4 p.m., as they shift out of the northwest ushering in cooler air. Temperatures will fall into the 40s after sunset with wind chills falling into the 30s.
