In 1972, the passage of the federal law Title IX forever changed the education landscape.

Fifty years later, Title IX is perhaps most well known for expanding opportunities for women in sports. Participation of women in athletics has increased at all levels, and women now make up 44 percent of NCAA student athletes. But the path over the past five decades has not always been smooth, and experts believe more progress must be made. Some universities are still not in compliance, and cuts to athletics budgets due to the pandemic have resulted in legal actions.
