A little while back I did a live workshop for a small group of entrepreneurs.

The workshop included a quick but important segment on “5 negative factors” I frequently see knocking people off-track, damaging performance, and holding their businesses back.

Most people do at least one or more of these things even if they don't realize it.

But I believe fixing these factors will help pretty much anybody…

So I wanted to share them with you too:

1. Negative Actions

Aka Bad Habits.

This morning after writing for an hour I turned on my phone.

I received one text message last night from a longtime friend and client:

“Craig, “I’m missing my Morning Routine commitments and giving in to the apps in the afternoon (IG, ESPN, podcasts, etc.). I need help to get back on track!”

This is a common problem, and we fix with the same steps that get us out of complacency:

a) Specific Goals & Deadlines
b) A Detailed Plan to Achieve the Goals
c) Public Accountability to Stay on Track

In addition, an Identity Shift is required.

That leads to Factor Number 2.

2. Negative Thoughts

Negative self-talk is the hidden hobgoblin of the mind that has killed a million dreams.

What stories are you telling yourself about your identity?

If you’re continually calling yourself “a bad leader”, “bad at sales”, “unmotivated”, etc.

Those negative thoughts will manifest into reality.

But let me ask you a great question that I heard from Leila Hormozi on a YT video.

“What evidence do you have that this is true?

You say you are bad at sales...

But the truth is you’ve never tried a script, you haven’t done any training, and so you aren’t booking any sales calls.

There is no evidence that you are bad at sales...

There is only evidence that you are taking the path of least resistance and avoiding hard work!

We must consistently work to remove the hobgoblins messing up our minds.

You can do it. Anyone can.

Kick out the hobgoblins.

Make room for the truth about your greatness.

3. Negative People

When I was a college-aged binge drinker…

I spent all of my Saturday’s at the same bars with the same friends.

Today, some of those friends still spend Saturday’s at the same bars. It’s INSANE!

I love those guys and we had some great laughs...

But I decided to grow and had to leave the nest...

Some of my friends grew with me, others didn’t.

That’s their decision.

I can’t hold myself back – and you can’t hold yourself back – when and if others decide to remain in a comfort zone of complacency ...

Or worse, in a nest of negativity trying to claw you back down to their level.

Time for you to do a “People Appraisal”...

And spend less time with any Negative Nancys.

4. Negative Environments

Environments go hand-in-hand with people.

You find destroyers of life in destructive environments.

You find good people in good environments (Masterminds, personal development seminars, etc.)

Choose wisely and put your butt where your heart needs it to be.

5. Negative Planning

This one is incredibly underrated.

But if your morning routine is suffering and your productivity is lacking, it’s likely because your planning is insufficient.

Better planning and preparation is the key to achieving any goal…

From losing weight, to writing a book, to having a healthy pregnancy.

We are.

Are you planning and preparing for everything that you can?

Before you end your day...

Are you clear about your #1 priority for tomorrow morning? And how you’ll get up and get to it as soon as you can during your Magic Time or first work block?

Have you eliminated all distractions so that you can move ahead and get a quick win, bringing you a positive dopamine response, subsequent motivation, and forward momentum?

If not…

Knockout your negative planning with better scheduling and preparation.

It’s a simple key to accomplishing your big goals in life.

Success Loves Speed,

Craig
