| May 25, 2022 Hey traders! It's Michael here with the BRAND NEW Stock Dork Premarket Report, your go-to guide for the day's biggest trading news and hottest premarket stocks! Today is Wednesday, May 25th. Let's get ready to trade! |
The Dow managed to climb 0.2% on Tuesday, while the S&P 500 sank to a 0.8% loss. The tech-heavy Nasdaq sold-off for 2.4%, and the small-cap Russell 2K tumbled 1.6%. Today, futures are pointing to more losses in today's session. Dow and S&P 500 contracts are currently showing a 0.2% loss, but Nasdaq-100 contracts are showing a 0.3% gain. Nordstrom [JWN] - Last Close: $20.68 Nordstrom is rallying after the company released upbeat Q1 numbers after Tuesday's closing bell. The landmark apparel retailer significantly improved its operating loss to just $0.06 per share, narrowing from the year-earlier quarter's $0.64 per share loss, but missed the Street's target of a $0.05 per share loss. Revenues came in it at $3.47 billion for the quarter, beating analysts' $3.29 billion target and prompting the company to hike its full-year revenue forecast. Nordstrom now expects to grow revenues at a 6% to 8% clip in its fiscal 2022. JWN is up 6.4% ahead of the opening bell. Our Take: Retail still looks like a suspect bet thanks to a tight labor market and sky-high inflation, but Nordstrom is showing signs of life. There could be some opportunities for short-term gains in this stock. Cyclo Therapeutics [CYTH] - Last Close: $2.10 Anticipation of a big announcement is lifting shares of Cyclo Therapeutics. Last week, the clinical-stage biotechnology company announced that its CEO, N. Scott Fine, will present at the H.C. Wainwright Global Investment Conference. The company made its presentation yesterday, but details of the pitch weren't immediately available. Today, shares of CYTH are up 17.6%. Our Take: The market seems to be betting that the company could be on the verge of announcing big news in the wake of the conference. If they're right, it could be a catalyst for a rally down the road. Motus GI Holdings [MOTS] - Last Close: $0.2575 Promising clinical data is rallying shares of Motus GI Holdings. The medical technology stock reported "positive topline data" from an EU study evaluating its Pure-VU system. The study found the device increased the rate of adequate bowel cleansing from 31.8% to 97.7% in individuals with a history of poor bowel preparation. Motus reported that the average duration of a procedure was 28.1 minutes, including an average of 6.6 minutes for cleaning. MOTS is trading actively with a 37.9% gain on news of the strong clinical data. Our Take: Motus's Pure-VU system could be what the company needs to turn things around. Shares have posted big losses over the past year, but this milestone could mark a key pivot point for the stock if the firm can execute. Genocea Biosciences [GNCA] - Last Close: $0.12 Genocea is inexplicably soaring today despite announcing plans to wind down the company. Yesterday, Genocea Biosciences announced its board had voted to close down the company's ongoing operations and terminate any remaining employees who aren't necessary to complete an orderly wind down. Genocea delivered a formal notice to Nasdaq of its intent to voluntarily delist earlier in the week, and the firm plans to file a Form 25 with the SEC by June 2nd to finalize its removal from the exchange. The company says it's exploring options for offloading its drug pipeline and intellectual property. GNCA fell 72.7% on Tuesday as news of the shutdown spread, but the stock is rebounding dramatically in today's session. Shares are up 97.0% on active trading volume. Our Take: Genocea looks like a lame duck, but some speculative traders are betting that there could be a few more pops before it's all said and done. They might be right, but tread carefully with this one. |
