By KELLY P. KISSEL | Metro editor A neighborhood not far from I-12 in East Baton Rouge Parish is suffering through a streak of homicides. Since last Christmas, 11 people have turned up dead within a mile of the Sherwood Forest Boulevard exit. Four bodies have been found in the North Harrells Ferry Road area since last Friday morning. Why do police believe some of these killings are linked? The mayor-president of East Baton Rouge was on the witness stand yesterday as she challenges the creation of the city of St. George. She's trying to prove that carving out a city of nearly 90,000 people in the southeastern part of the parish will harm other parts of the region. What does Broome have to prove to win her lawsuit? What happened after protesters gathered to criticize a bill that would carve predominantly black neighborhoods out of one of Louisiana's best-performing school districts? A state senator says he's just trying to prevent overcrowding in the Central district. Pure motives or an attempt to resegregate? Thanks for checking in for today's headlines.
