The Current Plus: Fake CAPTCHA warning, future laptops, new translation tools and more great tech goodies - Sponsored by Fabric | Say hello to Pi Day, friend! đ„§ A famous scientist was born on Pi Day, March 14th. Was it ⊠A) Nikola Tesla, B) Albert Einstein, C) Isaac Newton or D) Stephen Hawking? Make your best guess, and youâll find the answer at the end. âïž Today is a special day. You and me, letâs talk! Iâm taking calls on my show today at 12:30 p.m. Pacific (3 p.m. Eastern). Iâd love to chat with YOU! I bet you do! â Kim đŁ Donât keep me a secret: Share this email with friends (or copy URL here) | TODAY'S DEEP DIVE The future of laptops My job is to keep you ahead of the curve, so you know whatâs worth your hard-earned money and whatâs just hype. One reader recently asked me: Where are laptops going next? Letâs break it down. đ€ AI is baked in As AI gets better, imagine a bot that automates boring laptop tasks like booking flights, ordering groceries or organizing your files. Microsoftâs Copilot+ PCs promise to do just that. AI-powered laptops will also soon learn your habits, adjusting settings based on how you work. Think battery optimizations on the fly, automatic background noise cancellation and predictive typing that actually gets it right. Should you buy an AI-powered laptop now? Nope. Wait until the end of the year when the tech is more developed. đź Designs are futuristic Laptops havenât changed very much over the last five years. Theyâre all basic clamshells, but thatâs starting to shift. Thinner screens, dual-display setups and foldable laptops are on the rise. The Asus Zenbook Duo has two built-in screens, while Lenovo just showed off a laptop with a screen that expands on demand, compact when you carry it, bigger when you need it. Future laptops could let you swap out components like LEGO blocks instead of replacing the entire machine. Imagine upgrading your processor, storage or RAM just by snapping in a new piece. đșđŒWho wants a laptop dance? In the next five years, expect to see gesture and voice controls, maybe eye-tracking or brain-controlled interfaces (seriously). Instead of a trackpad or touch screen, you might just think about what you want to do and your laptop will respond. Weâll also have laptops powered by kinetic energy (think: charging your laptop just by typing). Holographic displays will replace traditional screens. Imagine opening your laptop and seeing a floating, 3D workspace instead of a physical screen. Your next laptop might not even have a screen at all â just a virtual display that adjusts to wherever youâre working. Researchers are developing self-healing materials that will repair small cracks or scratches on a laptop automatically. No more worrying about drops or wear and tear. Exciting times ahead, and donât worry, Iâll keep you up to speed as it all unfolds. đ Speaking of ⊠My laptop was making funny noises today; it sounded like it was singing. Probably because itâs a Dell. |

WEB WATERCOOLER âïž Googleâs in trouble: The DOJ wants them to sell off Chrome, saying it has too much control over online search. They arenât wrong ⊠it has 3.4 billion users worldwide. Googleâs clapback? Forcing a sale would hurt consumers, damage the economy and pose a national security risk. The case moves forward in the coming weeks, so stay tuned. Donât fall for this! Fake CAPTCHA tests are popping up. Theyâll ask you to do three things: Press Windows Key + R (opens the Run command box), then Ctrl + V (pastes âI am not a robot â reCAPTCHA Verification ID: XXXXâ) and hit Enter. Youâve just executed a hidden prompt that downloads malware onto your computer. Snap. đž Gimme fuel, gimme fire, gimme that which I desire! Metallicaâs new concert just dropped on the Apple TV app. It was filmed with immersive 180-degree video and 3D sound, making you feel like youâre there. Busted by their own getaway car: Three men were arrested for home thefts across North Carolina. Their rented SUV had a GPS tracker that logged their whereabouts for the past two to three weeks, linking them to more crimes in at least 10 North Carolina counties. âïž Heard of Jeniffer Castro? She refused to give up her window seat for a crying child and got filmed during the whole thing. Now, sheâs suing the airline and the passenger who recorded her over the online hate and public shaming that followed. It got so bad she quit her job and stopped leaving her house. iRobot is launching eight new vacuums: For the first time, theyâre adding lidar tech for smart mapping to entry-level models. That means room-specific cleaning and keep-out zones right from the app. FYI: Amazon almost bought iRobot for over $1 billion, and recently, iRobot said theyâre not sure they will survive. Damn, that sucks. â„ïž Kindness goes viral: I love this. Lisa Aamot and her family are very close with their elderly neighbors, Fred and Evy. Recently, Lisa recorded her 4-year-old daughter, Sutton, walking to their house to borrow some maple syrup. Surprisingly, Fred, whoâs usually relaxing in his chair, answered the door. WHAT THE TECH? Remember when USA Today was on fire? Now, itâs thinner than single-ply toilet paper. I saw this post on Apple News. Theyâre definitely stuck in a crack, which is why I resigned as a columnist there a few weeks ago. As I always say, âIf you donât innovate, you evaporate!â |
LOGGING OUT ... The answer: Albert Einstein. While heâs famous for E=mcÂČ, Einstein also laid the groundwork for modern GPS technology. His theory of relativity showed that time moves slower for satellites orbiting Earth than it does for us on the ground â an effect that engineers must correct for GPS to work accurately! đ°ïž đ§ Not many people knew that Albert Einstein had a brother who was an evil scientist. His name was Frank Einstein. (Youâre totally going to steal that one!) đ Iâm giving away a Kim Komando Show ballcap (a $25 value) every day this week! Want in?
