It's not farewell, it's see you later Today was All Team Day at Technical.ly. Every December, we bring everyone at the company together (virtually in this case) to review our progress over the last year, hold an internal hackathon to set up the year ahead and take some time to see teammates outside of the usual meeting setting. I always look forward to this opportunity to step back and get some good old-fashioned team bonding time. This year, it was especially meaningful: After nearly seven years of reporting and editing across our mid-Atlantic markets, I'm leaving Technical.ly for a new opportunity in 2022. This is my last day, and final newsletter. As the moment of transition arrives, I'm simply thankful. In particular, I want to thank Technical.ly CEO Christopher Wink for trusting me to cover this important moment of economic change and always encouraging my growth to leadership, while Managing Editor Julie Zeglen has simultaneously been a close confidante and attentive editor over these last few years. I'm equally thankful for the chance to work with a smart and creative group of journalists, and a team that's connective and truly cares about each other. (btw, Technical.ly is hiring an editor to oversee coverage in multiple mid-Atlantic cities). Likewise, it has been an honor to have a front row seat for a period of explosive growth and innovation in the tech and entrepreneurship community in Baltimore. I appreciate all the time you've taken to answer my questions, contribute guest posts, make intros and offer feedback. Journalism starts with conversations between people, and you've always been willing to jump in. As for what's next: At the beginning of 2022, I'm joining Baltimore-based tech company Tradeswell, where I'll be leading an exciting initiative that is poised to play a crucial role in the company's growth. Tradeswell's dynamic team is solving key problems in ecommerce at a time of supercharged growth in the industry, and I couldn't be more thrilled by the opportunity to play an integral role as the company forges ahead. With that, this is the last Technical.ly newsletter of 2021. The team is taking a break for the holidays, and newsletters will return on January 3, 2022, with more updates and insights from Baltimore's community of tech professionals. Have a great holiday season, and thanks for building this community. —Technical.ly Deputy Managing Editor Stephen Babcock ([email protected]) |
