Situational Analysis | Jan. 21, 2025 It's Tuesday and opening day of the 2025 legislative session. Happy birthday to Reps. Ariel Defay and Walt Brooks! ð ð ð There are 435 bills currently numbered and titled. Three things to watch today: The Utah legislature will be gaveled into session today at 10 am. In addition to swearing in legislatures and attending to the business of opening the session, Senate President Stuart Adams and House Speaker Mike Schulz will give opening remarks to their members. You can follow along at le.utah.gov The State of the Judiciary will be a 2:15 pm, when House and Senate members will gather in the House chambers to hear from Three Pacific Islander lawmakers are joining the Utah Legislature. Democrats , Verona Mauga of District 31 and Jake Fitisemanu of District 30 will be joined by Republican Doug Fiefia of District 48. Fitisemanu is proposing a public safety bill targeting people running red lights. Mauga is working on renterâs rights. Fiefia will focus on laws protecting children who are in the custody of the state.
