The 2021 Inductee Exhibit will also open that day, featuring artifacts from each of this year’s 13 new inductees, including The Go-Go’s, Jay-Z, Tina Turner, Carole King, Foo Fighters and Todd Rundgren, along with specialty award recipients Kraftwerk, Charley Patton, Gil Scott-Heron, LL Cool J, Billy Preston, Randy Rhoads and Clarence Avant. 2021 Halloween entertainment guide Looking to get in the spooky spirit ahead of Halloween this year? There are plenty of ways to celebrate in Northeast Ohio, both in family-friendly and fear-filled formats. We put together a guide to some of the biggest events happening in the area, over the next TWO weekends, including bar crawls, fall festivals, concerts, haunted houses and more. Some events delve into local lore, while others celebrate harmless Halloween tales. We recommend checking with organizers ahead of time to learn more about specific venues’ pandemic protocols and requirements.
“Rocky Horror Picture Show” Barry Bostwick, the actor who played Brad Majors in the 1975 cult horror-comedy-musical film “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” will host a special Friday, Oct. 22, screening of the film at Akron’s E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall. The event marks the 45th anniversary of the movie’s release. Tickets $23-$48. 198 Hill St., Akron. DETAILS Wizbang Theatre Cleveland’s Wizbang circus theater will host a few performances in honor of Halloween. All shows require proof of COVID-19 vaccine and face masks. “The Legend of Stingy Jack” — scheduled for Oct. 22-23 and Oct. 29-30 — explores the stories behind Halloween jack-o’-lanterns. The performance will include marionettes, shadow puppets and more. Tickets $15-$60. A Halloween concert by Cleveland band Hello!3D will feature ‘60s and ‘70s Cumbia music on Oct. 30. HalloWeekends at Cedar Point When fall arrives, Cedar Point transforms from a summertime amusement park into a haunting night out. The park features a variety of fright-filled attractions, ranging in scariness from the easygoing lit-up Pumpkin Spectacular display to the more frightening haunted houses Cut Throat Cove and Cornstalkers II. Blood Prison A haunted-house experience called Blood Prison takes on a historic (and ultra scary) setting: the Ohio State Reformatory. Buckland Museum of Witchcraft and Magick art exhibitions To celebrate Halloween, the Buckland Museum is hosting two new art exhibitions fit for the spooky season. One showcases “House of Usher” portrait artist Burt Shonberg and his occult creations, while the other focuses on local artists’ depictions of “Satanic Panic” in pop culture. “Beyond The Pleasure Dome: The Lost Occult World of Burt Shonberg” is on view through Nov. 1, while “Satanic Panic: Dragons, Witches, & Monsters In Popular Culture” is on view through Nov. 15. This year, that includes a Tina Turner tribute (by Nancy Redd and Sounds of Jazz), a Taking Back Sunday tribute (by Mild Stallion), a Moldy Peaches tribute (by members of Bitchin Seahorse and Afternoon Naps) and a Foo Fighters tribute (by members of Public Squares, Restless Habs and So Long Albatross). B-Side Liquor Lounge parties The B-Side Liquor Lounge, located downstairs from the Grog Shop, has a few festive parties to celebrate spooky season. On Friday, Oct. 22, the venue’s S*** Show Karaoke crew will host its Halloween party, with drink specials and prizes, and plenty of opportunities to share your singing skills. Tickets $5. EAT & DRINK Cleveland Beer Week winds up this weekend Cleveland Beer Week, the annual celebration of craft beer, has a couple of signature events planned for Saturday, Oct. 23. The inaugural CBW Barrel Bash will pair seven local breweries with a barrel to create barrel-aged beers. Six Ohio distilleries and one from Kentucky are participating. TV & MOVIES ‘Dune’ Denis Villeneuve's somberly majestic adaptation of Frank Herbert's 1965 cult sci-fi novel "Dune," with its grand-scale architecture and thundering sonic blasts, would certainly be best experienced on the big screen. But "Dune" will be streaming simultaneously on HBO Max beginning Friday, Oct. 22, giving audiences a choice in how and where to see one of the year's most anticipated spectacles. "Dune" stars Timothée Chalamet as the heir to the House Atreides, which has taken over the mining of a precious resource on the desert planet of Arrakis. Little goes according to plan on Arrakis, where locals rebel against the industrial occupiers and other challenges mount. The starry cast includes Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Zendaya and Javier Bardem. But the greatest appeal of "Dune" may be its sweeping sands and grand sci-fi cinematography. DETAILS
‘Invasion’ "Invasion" has the potential to be a lesson in geography and a travelogue with aliens. As extraterrestrials attempt a global land-grab, the 10-part Apple TV+ drama tracks the fallout for individuals across continents. Among those whose stories are told: A rural American sheriff (Sam Neill), a U.S soldier (Shamier Anderson) stationed in the Middle East, and a Japanese aerospace technician (Shioli Kutsuna). The creators include Simon Kinberg ("X-Men" and "Deadpool" films) and David Weil ("Hunters"). Three episodes will be released Friday, Oct. 22, with new episodes out weekly. DETAILS
‘Insecure’ Issa Rae's groundbreaking comedy "Insecure" begins its fifth and final season Sunday, Oct. 24, on HBO. Based in part on her life and on her web series "The Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl," the series follows Rae's fictional counterpart, Issa Dee, and best friend Molly (Yvonne Orji) through the highs and lows of love and career. Rae's own star has soared, with movies ("The Photograph," "The Lovebirds"), a record label and more to come. In an 2017 interview, Rae said it was rewarding that "Insecure" had proven wrong the naysayers who claimed its authentic stories about characters of color wouldn't find an audience. DETAILS
‘Four Hours at the Capitol’ In "Four Hours at the Capitol," filmmaker Jamie Roberts goes minute-by-minute through the Jan. 6 siege of the U.S. Capitol by supporters of President Donald Trump seeking to overturn the election results. The 92-minute film, debuting Wednesday on HBO and HBO Max, includes first-hand accounts of the day from lawmakers, police officers, protesters and rioters. More than 630 people have been charged in the insurrection. DETAILS
MUSIC ![]() Elton John Elton John might be sporting a mask on his album cover, but he's ready to unleash his voice and a cast of popular performers on his new offering "The Lockdown Sessions." It's a collaborative album for the multi-Grammy winner who recorded most of the songs over the past 18 months after he put his live tour on hold because of the pandemic. The 16-track album is led by the single "Cold Heart (Pnau remix)" with Dua Lipa. The album offers a diverse lineup of collaborations including Stevie Wonder, Lil Nas X, Stevie Nicks, Brandi Carlile, Eddie Vedder, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj and Young Thug. John said some of the recording sessions were held remotely via Zoom, which he's never done before during his career. He said recording "Lockdown Sessions" took him out of his "comfort zone into completely new territory." DETAILS
Nas at the Grammy Museum Rapper Nas will take part in an intimate conversation during a week filled with other events at the Grammy Museum in downtown Los Angeles. The hip-hop legend along with producer Hit-Boy will discuss on Tuesday the recording process behind the rapper's highly acclaimed album "King's Disease," which landed him his first-ever Grammy. Other Grammy Museum events include a special program on Monday to discuss George Harrison and Eric Clapton's legendary and tumultuous friendship that shaped their careers and rock music in the early 1970s. On Friday, Debbie Gibson will talk about her successful career in music and acting along with her new album, "The Body Remembers." Gibson expects to perform. DETAILS
