Every smart entrepreneur knows that having a highly competent, cohesive team is the #1 key to scaling their business and working LESS.

So why does it sometimes feel like such a headache?

If you’ve been struggling to build and leverage a high performing team in your business…

This advice I’ve recently shared with clients should help.

====================================

Q: “Craig, I’m frustrated with our team meetings. It seems clear to me on what to do next, but my team isn’t following through.”

Answer:
You need to ask this #1 Question at the end of every meeting…

‘Who does what by when?’

Put this up on a white board so that everyone can see it.

Write up every task and assign an owner with a deadline date.

Get verbal confirmation – before the meeting ends – from each task owner that they understand the assignment and will hit the deadline.

Then send out a summary email to the meeting attendees with a summary of the details.

And then contact each “task owner” individually to confirm and ask if they have any problems.

Q: “How do we hire the right people?”

Answer:

Recruiting top talent is nearly a full time, never ending job. To expect otherwise is to set yourself up for frustration.

In this economy, great people aren't sitting around on their thumbs. They have jobs... and they are probably making bank.

Here are the steps to attract someone into your world.

1. In the job description, require that people do a short 10 minute task and attach it as a separate document in their application along with a resume and cover letter. This allows you to quickly filter through the crap. The 10 minute task can be, "Review our website and tell us three things we could improve to get more clients."

2. Go to your clients first... Thank them for being part of the community, tell them you're growing fast, and you need a new member associate or whatever you call the position, and then provide them a link to the job ad on a hidden page on your website.

3. Tell everyone on your social media profiles about the link... The reason why we go to "our world" is because they are familiar with your mission and values... we want someone aligned with us... and it's easier to find those people in our world than as complete strangers (like finding love at a pub vs. from our social circle, haha).

4. Then go to all appropriate job boards, and to local colleges and related departments and also to FB groups of industry pros.

5. Also go to Linked In... upgrade to LI premium... then search for the job title of your preferred person, and start a conversation with everyone that fits your profile, even if they have a job.

That's a start. This is not easy, but it's simple. We have to look, Look, LOOK, and recruit, Recruit, RECRUIT. It's never ending if you want to build an Empire.

Keep me posted on your progress.

Q: “Craig, how do I get my team to be more productive?”

Answer:
Make the first hour of everyone's day the "Dark Hour".

Have everyone turn off all phones and email notifications.

Have them work on the #1 priority for 50 minutes.

Then give them a 10 minute break as a reward.

Then they can work on other activities.
