Greetings, New Orleans food fans! Here's a cool end-of-summer idea: Dining at one of 17 local waterfront restaurants with a soothing view of lake, bayou or river. The New Orleans oyster scene is changing. Look who's buying the Avenue Pub! The founders of Royal China retired... very briefly. Turkey and the Wolf's chef has a cookbook out. What's replacing the last Pinkberry? And finally, whip up an end-of-summer feast of okra fritters and pear cake with Teresa B. Day. 1. On the waterfront. At this point in the New Orleans summer, a waterfront meal can be just the thing. Here's your go-to list for New Orleans dining by the lake, river or bayou. 2. Adventure on the half-shell? “American oysters differ as much as American people,” wrote M.F.K. Fisher in her classic “Consider the Oyster.” That variety is on delicious display at modern New Orleans oyster bars, where Ian McNulty sampled bivalves from Alabama, Washington and Canada. 3. Wait! There's more. The founders of a BBQ restaurant and the owners of a Frenchmen Street bar have partnered to buy the 24-hour craft beer mecca, Avenue Pub. Retirement didn't suit the owners of Metairie's Royal China: See what's next. Mason Hereford of Turkey and the Wolf will sign his cookbook. And the last Pinkberry will close, to be replaced by a shop offering ice cream and coffee. 4. Frittered away. Teresa B. Day describes her okra fritters as a cross between fried okra and a hush puppy. Say no more! And she's adjusted an apple cake recipe to feature delicious harvest pears. Check out Teresa's end-of-summer feast.
