Buongiorno from Roma! If you get my daily travel tip newsletter, then you know that yesterday, we disembarked the Enchanted Princess in Civitavecchia, Italy. We had an amazing time but getting from the ship to the city (an 80-minute drive) was a doozy. The taxi I had pre-arranged canceled the night before. I was told it wouldn't be difficult to find a taxi to the city center. Another learning experience: It was bad and I mean bad. There were people, myself included, just waiting in the street for a taxi or car service, so we could all pounce. About 98% of the drivers had pre-arranged return trips and they all said it was crazy. There are so many tourists, especially Americans, and not enough cars. After standing in the hot sun, I finally found a private driver who took us for 350 euros. A taxi normally costs 120 euros. It wasn't that bad since the cruise line charges $89 per person, even little kids, and it just drops you off in town, not at your hotel. If you're coming to Rome this summer, and it seems a lot of my friends are, be prepared for massive crowds and hot weather. |
