As the Sundance Film Festival wraps and the small mountain town empties of cinephiles, trophies and connections, we look at the films and themes that stood out at the hybrid event.
 

The love between a parent and their child can be a beautiful thing, but it can also be complicated, traumatic and even dangerous. It was a theme that ran rampant throughout this year's festival, as filmmakers appeared to use the medium of cinema to resolve and heal some deep wounds and internal conflict from their childhood or celebrate the resilience of parenthood.
 

There were other standouts around art, memory and identity. Still, the child-parent relationship filtered through most films from both perspectives and even dominated the top award lists.
