37-factor authentication: A mother’s answer to a nasty scam

America isn’t the only country being bombarded with spam texts. In Japan, a common scam targeting seniors involves a single text message that just says “It’s me. I need money.” The scammer will then ask for a modest sum, and many of the victims assume that it’s a child or grandchild in need. But one woman wasn’t about to take this scam lightly.

Instead of forking over cash, she decided to quiz the scammer on something only her child would know: “Name all 37 Pretty Cures.” Pretty Cure is a cartoon for young girls, and to nobody’s surprise, the scammer couldn’t even name one. Her kid, apparently, is a huge fan. If you thought that was clever, this older woman from Japan designed a video game just for seniors.
