10 thriller titles from Thread readers So far, I’ve brought you Patricia Highsmith’s classic Ripley thrillers. Showtime is making a TV series of them, starring the creepy Andrew Scott, famous as Sherlock's villain Moriarty. I recommended Kate Elizabeth Russell’s “My Dark Vanessa” and Amity Gaige’s “Sea Wife.” But I like to know what I’m missing, and you brought me a list that will keep all of us reading well into the darker nights of autumn. So here goes: Emily tweeted Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None,” a mystery/thriller set on an island where ten people have been invited by a secretive host, who will eventually accuse each guest of murder. Dale raved about the "Slough House" series by Mick Herron (I’ve read them all) about a group of disgraced yet resourceful British spies who still manage to foil the sinister work of their foreign counterparts to keep the United Kingdom safe.
Julie loves Jo Nesbo’s "Harry Hole" series. A warning: They’re bloody but masterfully plotted. Rollie recommends Daniel Silva’s “The Other Woman.” A disclosure: I’m also a dedicated Silva fan and read everything he writes, but like Rollie, “The Other Woman” is a favorite of mine, too. Charles celebrates Alan Furst, whose wartime spy thrillers are second to none. “Mission to Paris,” the story of a Hollywood actor who finds himself enmeshed in a Nazi conspiracy, is exceptional. Candice brings us Gregg Hurwitz’s “Orphan X” series and I’ve just requested the fifth book, “Into the Fire” from my local library. Michael relishes the "Cas Russell" series by S.L. Huang, who puts a sci-fi twist on her suspense. Ryan reminds us that the "Mitch Rapp" series the late Vince Flynn created is still going strong with the help of writer Kyle Mills. “Total Power” will be published in September. And Tom sent me a long list that included Brad Thor’s “The Lions of Lucerne.” Thanks for all the great suggestions.
