COMIC BOOK HALL OF FAME TO HONOR ‘MAD MAGAZINE’ CONTRIBUTORS: The annual Harvey Awards, which take place during New York Comic Con, will induct seven people to the Hall of Fame, including five contributors to Mad Magazine, which recently announced it will effectively shut down this fall. The ceremony, taking place October 4 at Hudson Mercantile, also will honor Fun Home cartoonist Alison Bechdel and Hellboy comic book creator Mike Mignola. The New York Times: “The other inductees, posthumously, are Will Elder, Jack Davis, Ben Oda, and the siblings John Severin and Marie Severin, who were all significant contributors to Mad Magazine, which was founded and created by Harvey Kurtzman. (The award is named for Kurtzman and is sponsored by ReedPOP, the company that operates New York Comic Con.) The awards have been presented at a variety of comic book conventions over the years, and made New York Comic Con a permanent home in 2017.” 3. GLOBAL CITIZEN ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR 10-HOUR BROADCAST IN 2020: Global Citizen and C.E.O. advisory firm Teneo announced Thursday the year-long campaign, Global Goal Live: The Possible Dream, which will include a 10-hour concert broadcast on September 26, 2020. Simultaneous events will take place in in New York, Lagos, Nigeria, and to-be-announced cities in Latin America, Europe, and Asia. This year’s Global Citizen Festival will take place Saturday in New York’s Central Park.
