0DTE or 1DTE? Choosing the Right Option for SPY Scalps

Scalping the S&P 500 on your ticker of choice — be it SPY, SPX, XSP or whatever — intraday can be incredibly effective…

But if you pick the wrong expiration, you’re handing the market your edge. I trade this every single day, and the decision between 0DTE and 1DTE — meaning zero days till expiration or one day till expiration — options isn’t just about personal style.

It’s about risk, decay and control.

A lot of traders love 0DTE because of the fast moves and cheap premiums. But those same traders are the ones getting smoked when time decay kicks in or a reversal wipes out their entire premium in minutes.

I’m not saying it can’t work — I’ve seen people pull massive profits from 0DTE contracts — but you’d better be fast, disciplined and emotionless. Otherwise, that decay will eat you alive.
